God Speaking and Changing Hearts

Monday I received an email from someone who had attended one of Sunday's worship services at Grace. I was greatly encouraged by their email. I asked if I could share it on my blog...keeping the writer anonymous. The person agreed...so be encouraged by how God moves...sometimes with the person sitting beside us in church. The Betrayal sermon...

Kenya...Day 15 - Our Last Day

Day 15 Today was our last day in Kenya. It was a day filled with good-byes. Saying good-bye in Africa is a formal event filled with tears, sadness, and gratitude. At the end of class, Cris and I were asked to stand so that class members could give us their farewell speech. It was opened up to the class and there were several who stood and...

Kenya...Day 14

Day 14 Today was interesting. I’ll tell you up front…there is a reason no pictures are on this post. I’ll just let your imagination paint the picture. Let me explain. The day started fine. Class went well. The students are still excited to learn and God is working in all of our lives. It all got interesting around 6 PM. The...

Kenya...Day 13

Day 13 The Gospel has been altered on the continent of Africa. I am sure there are some here who preach/teach the Gospel in Spirit and truth. I’m certain some here are preaching/teaching with false motives to exploit the people. However, I believe most preachers/teachers in Africa are simply preaching/teaching what they know. They do not...

Kenya...Day 11 & 12

Day 11 & 12 The past two days have been exciting. On Saturday we had class until 12:00 PM. We then boarded a van to travel to Nakuru National Park to go on a Safari. It was supposed to be a 3 hour drive to Nakuru. It turned into a 6 hour drive. We were all humming Gilligan’s Island theme song by the time we arrived at our hotel....

Kenya...Day 9

Day 9 Today was an exciting day for the students. They were allowed to preach or teach a lesson using the skills we have been teaching them. I know this hard to understand. We are used to Bible lessons and sermons that are supported with good Bible study skills, but here it is a new thing. It is common for a preacher/teacher in Kenya to simply...

Kenya...Day 8

Day 8 Today was not as strenuous a day. We spent the morning reviewing the lessons and then I gave them an example of a sermon using the skills we have been teaching them. The students had the rest of the day to develop a sermon outline and presentation that they will share tomorrow. I am amazed at their eagerness to learn. After class, I and...

Kenya...Day 7

Day 7  Today has been a precious and exhausting day. Forgive me if this post has no pictures and is short. No picture could capture what happened and due to my fatigue my words are not coming so easily. The day started at 5 AM with singing and prayers. The participants in the training decided on there on to start the day at that time....

Kenya...Day 6

Day 6 It is Monday and we are entering our second week of class. Over the weekend the pastors and students were allowed to go back to their villages/churches to conduct weekend services. We were a little concerned that some of them may not return. We were wrong…they all came back.   Most of those participating in the training are...

Kenya...Day 5

Day 5 We woke up at 7 AM…our latest start to any day we have had. Cris and I were bunked up in an attachment to the main house. We had walls and a roof, but it was still an open air room. Due to the higher elevation, it got cool, but it was a great night of rest. Pastor Paul drew us water and his wife warmed it for us and poured us each...

Kenya...Day 4

Day 4 Today has been different from all the others. Yesterday, we lost power (that happens frequently). When we woke up this morning there was still no power. When there is no power, there is no hot water. When there is no hot water, there is no shower (ughhhh). We started class at 8:30 AM, but at noon 4 members of our team (Cris, Diann,...

Kenya...Day 3

Day 3 There are 27 pastors and missionaries here going through the training. They each have interesting stories. Let me share with you one of the individuals I have met. His name is Pastor Fessahad (he lets me call him Pastor Fess…I am grateful). He pastors a 5000 member church, teaches church history at the seminary, and oversees...
